    GENERAL SUMMARY Under the general supervision/direction of the site administrator(s), performs varied clerical duties related to monitoring student attendance, including maintaining enrollment and attendance records; cafeteria accounting, including processing free and reduced meal applications; and assists in meeting school and District health/welfare requirements. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs a wide variety of clerical/statistical responsibilities regarding student attendance, including students on Independent Study. Maintains enrollment and attendance records using the student accounting system. Performs a variety of routine clerical work including composing correspondence, proofreading, and filing. Responsible for enrollment/transfer of students; provides information on routine, procedural or directional questions to students, staff and public; operates telephone and inter-school communication system. Administers minor first aid to pupils and dispenses medication as required. Receives money from students, i.e., program/class needs, activities and maintains records of same; issues and records cafeteria tickets. Works closely with School Secretary to provide effective, professional service to students, staff and public. May monitor students' classroom assignments as prescribed by teachers and site administrators. May assist in compiling materials for students assigned to the In-house Detention Center. May be required to maintain a quiet learning environment during the time students are in the In-house Detention Center. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids; ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels; ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Ability to perform a variety of clerical work involving use of independent judgment and requiring accuracy and speed. Skill in operating office machines and equipment including typewriter, copier, word processor and a computer terminal and printer. Ability to pass a standardized typing test at the rate of 45 words net per minute. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to present a professional demeanor that establishes a desirable example for children. WORKING CONDITIONS Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment, including a typewriter or computer terminal to type letters, reports and other materials; bending, reaching to maintain files; hearing to answer telephones; speaking to exchange information, and sitting and operating a keyboard to enter data into a computer terminal for extended periods of time. Moderate to high stress level. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Indoor office environment. Temperature - normal climate. JOB PARTICULARS All body fluids shall be handled as if infectious. Disposable waterproof gloves are to be worn when coming into contact with body fluids. After each use, gloves are disposed of in a lined waste container. CONTACTS Daily contact with students, teachers, all school and District staff. Occasional contact with parents, community members and outside agency personnel. OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATES/LICENSES Valid California Driver's License. First Aid and CPR certification. Successfully pass screening/District administered Basic Skills Test. Annual Blood borne Pathogen/Hep B training. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. At least two years' experience in a school office environment. Dexterity and physical condition to maintain a rigorous work schedule and meet standards of physical and mental health.
