Has there been any changes to security in the past year? There's a Family Dollar here SE Michigan where to employees were killed.

I don't really know about changes company wide. At our store we added enough cameras that we can monitor every part of the store. We also have mirrors everywhere so that no matter what isle you're down you can see the other shoppers. And we're just all around more attentive.

You poor ***. A buddy of mine was a manager at a family dollar here in Detroit. I've heard some horrible stories. Got any good ones?

I haven't really been at my place for long enough to have anything truly horrible happen to me. The worst was a guy who I caught stealing red handed and he went out into the parking lot with his family in tow and started taking all his clothes off. He had already thrown what he stole in his car and I guess he didn't think I saw that. He undressed as a way to prove he didn't have anything. We called the cops but he left and had removed his plates (with the help of his 7 year old daughter) so he probably wasn't caught.

Have you ever had any close encounters at the store? i.e; people who look like they plan on robbing the store, or could be dangerous?

Not that I've ever seen. The worst was the guy who stole 300 bucks worth of Tide. That wasn't really a robbery though. I've caught several people stealing though and have escorted many people out. One woman I told to leave I was 99.999% sure sure was going to come back in. But with a gun this time. She didn't though. I am actually allowed to ask anyone scary to leave if they make me nervous. I don't have to supply them a reason. I can just politely ask them if they could leave my store. I feel bad sometimes because it is very much profiling. I have to remember though that we've been robbed and I'm not going to put anyone at risk because I don't want to hurt a customer's feelings. One thing we do is we greet and make direct eye contact with every person who comes in. If we see people who are kinda iffy then we call loudly out "CODE A!!" or "SKU CHECK!!". It makes potential wrong-doers nervous and gets whoever is on the floor walking around regreeting everyone.

Because money? A job is a job and this one is pretty close to my house. I don't have a car and I have bills. You can see why I would work here.

Has there ever been an armed robbery at your store?

Yes! A few times. The last time it happened was before my employment. He didn't have a gun but he came in shortly before closing and grabbed the assistant manager at the time and held a screw driver to her neck. The ASM was pregnant and the stress of the ordeal caused her to miscarry. Fortunately, during my employment there have been no incidents.
