This is a fully remote, in-house position responsible for managing a designated caseload of Workers' Compensation cases and handling appearances before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Oxnard.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive legal research, and develop well-reasoned legal arguments.
Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs.
Collaborate with Claims Partners to achieve the best results for Hartford insured clients.
Communicate effectively and promptly with clients on legal and factual issues, providing legal advice and updates.
Maintain professional communication with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
Ensure efficient and effective resolution of assigned cases.
Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials or administrative hearings.
Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts.
Qualifications:
Note: This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney, based on experience.
Staff Attorney Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience in Workers' Compensation law.
JD from an accredited law school and California state bar license.
Trial experience preferred but not required.
Positive, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude.
Strong legal research and writing skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
