Job Description Pay: $21.29 to $25.54 per hour City Benefits Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the operation of specialized vehicles and heavy equipment used by the Public Works Department in the maintenance of City utilities or water/sewer systems. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates specialized vehicles and heavy equipment used by the Public Works Department in the maintenance of City utilities or water/sewer systems; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills. Hauls materials, and transports vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks. Performs traffic control activities as needed. Performs tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies; reports safety hazards and traffic problems. Completes work according to specified work orders; completes required daily logs and reports. Cross-trains work crews in proper work methods and safety procedures. Responds outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City. Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved. Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively. Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the City. Performs other duties as assigned or required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years work experience operating heavy motorized vehicles and maintenance equipment. The Loader Operator will be responsible for moving and loading vehicles with a company-provided front-end loader or forklift. In addition, the Loader Operator will be required to maintain documentation of vehicle movement around the facility. Furthermore, the Loader Operator will be responsible for the daily pre and post-trip inspections and associated documentation of their assigned machine. In addition, the operator will maintain a safe work environment and be required to follow and be held accountable to company guidelines for safe loader operation. Finally, through a thorough understanding of Copart policy, the Loader Operator will facilitate the Copart experience by offering solutions to meet customers' needs. * Ensures equipment is maintained according to company standards and customer contracts. * Operates company equipment safely. * Assists with the maintenance of company equipment and vehicles. * Records vehicle information accurately and legibly. * Operates digital camera or other basic vehicle documentation and tracking devices. * Sets up yard for auctions within company timelines. * Provides service to customers as needed. * Maintains a positive and professional demeanor. * Follows yard guidelines to maintain a safe working environment (i.e. speed limits, etc.). * Must be able to load and unload vehicles as required. * Must be able to pass training and safety requirements. * Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills & Experience: * HS diploma or GED preferred. * At least two years of work experience, preferably in an outdoor environment. * One year of loader or forklift experience, certification preferred. * Excellent customer service attitude and skills. * Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. * Positive attitude/High Integrity. * Ability to operate heavy equipment. * Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. * Strong attention to detail. * Occasional O.T. as needed. * Bilingual skills a plus.
