The Courthouse Police Officer position is a commissioned law enforcement officer position. This position provides Policing and Safety Services for the 18th Judicial District Courthouses, Sedgwick County physical properties, employees, and the citizens. Perform Access Control and Screening Functions for the 18th Judicial District Courthouse
* Greet and direct the public through the metal detectors.

* Visually and physically screen the publics' property.
* Hand scan and/or physically check citizens.

* Operate the Control Center's phone and camera systems.

Perform Law Enforcement Duties
* Patrol county facilities to provide a visible, uniformed deterrent and monitor for signs of criminal activity.
* Escort Persons as necessary.
* Respond to and properly document Calls for Service, including fire alarms, vehicle crashes, and disturbances.
* Conduct investigations, detain suspect(s), and conduct arrests as necessary.
* Provide police presence and security for the protection of a Judge, Jury, courtroom occupants, or other court hearings/duties as assigned.
* Detain and Arrest on commitment orders, warrants, or upon finding probable cause.
* Ensure respectful behavior from participants in the courtroom by enforcement of District Court Rules.
* Respond to calls for assistance from Service Officers for backup and to make arrests.
* Serve as first responder to provide aid and assistance to victims of automobile accidents crashes; assist Fire and Emergency Medical Services at the scene of traffic accidents.
* Prepare and maintain department records and reports in compliance with departmental policies and procedures; prepare and file written case reports
* Assist other emergency response agencies and County services such as EMS and Fire in emergency situations.
* Enforce Kansas statutes and Sedgwick County resolutions.
Minimum Qualifications: Six months of experience in law enforcement, security services, or a related field. High School diploma or equivalent. Currently certified Law Enforcement Officer under KSCPOST, or must certify within 120 days. Must be a United States Citizen. Must be 21 years or older. Candidate can have no record of criminal conviction, diversion, or expungement of any felony or crime of dishonesty, or the equivalent under the uniform code of military justice. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver's license without restrictions and current automobile insurance.

Hutchinson Community College is seeking dedicated and observant professionals to join our campus safety team as Part-Time Night & Weekend Campus Safety Officers. These part-time positions involve working primarily one to two shifts per week during nights and weekends to help maintain safety and security for our campus community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Patrol and Monitoring: Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of the campus to ensure safety and security.
Incident Response: Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, and emergencies.
Security Procedures: Enforce college rules and regulations and maintain a visible presence to deter crime.
Community Engagement: Assist students, faculty, and staff with inquiries and concerns.
Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative duties such as scheduling, report writing, and equipment maintenance.
Teamwork: Collaborate with local law enforcement and campus personnel to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Training and Development: Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Campus Safety, Assistant Coordinator of Campus Safety or the Executive Director of Student Affairs and Campus Safety.
Qualifications:
Experience: Prior experience in law enforcement, military police, or security is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain.
Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to work independently and as part of a team; problem-solving skills; and the ability to handle stress effectively.
Physical Requirements: include excellent vision; excellent eye/hand/foot coordination sufficient to operate equipment; the ability to assist in lifting heavy objects (possibly up to 100 pounds); may work in adverse conditions such as weather, possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissue, and communicable disease; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; medium (Potentially heavy), indoor/outdoor work environment.

HutchCC CSA Job Description Addendum:
Satisfy the duties of a Campus Security Authority (CSA) relating to Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security
Promptly reporting Clery Act crimes and/or allegations of Clery Act crimes to the designated HutchCC official(s) in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures;
Completing any HutchCC provided CSA training regarding campus safety and crime reporting issues;
Assisting in the issuance of timely warnings and emergency notifications in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures;
Serving as a resource to students, employees, and others regarding crime prevention, reporting and victim assistance; and
Collaborating with the Coordinator of Campus Safety, the Coordinator of Equity & Compliance, and the Director of Human Resources, regarding campus safety and compliance issues.
A professional counselor, as designated by HutchCC and whose official responsibilities include providing mental health counseling to members of the HutchCC community, may be exempt from reporting Clery Act crimes and/or allegations of Clery Act crimes when functioning within the scope of the counselors license or certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
Works on assigned shifts performing security patrols, traffic control, preliminary investigation, first aid at accident scenes, and detection, investigation and arrest of persons involved in crimes.
Maintains availability by radio and telephone for consultation on major emergencies.
Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and City laws and ordinances.
Patrols streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to preserve the peace and enforce the law, control vehicular traffic, prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving law violations.
Quickly responds to 911 emergency radio calls.
Examines doors, windows, premises of unoccupied building in order to detect suspicious conditions.
Accompanies prisoners to the police station, jail or court and appears in court as arresting officer.
Gives advice on laws and ordinances and general information to the public.
Attends training classes in police methods, firearms, first aid, and related subjects to maintain certification through the State of Kansas by achieving 40 hours of continuing education units annually.
Provides security and transportation for involuntarily committed mental health patients as assigned.
Performs typical duties involving: dusting for latent fingerprints, obtaining fingerprints of suspects; interviewing suspects and witnesses; gathering and preserving evidence; arresting violators.
Summoning ambulances and other law enforcement vehicles' taking measurments and drawing diagrams of scenes.
Conducting follow-up investigations of crimes committed during assigned shifts; developing leads and tips; searching scenes for clues.
Analyze and evalutate evidence; preparing cases for giving testimony and testifying in court proceedings.
Prepares a variety of reports and records, including incident reports, officer daily log, reports of investigation, field interrogation reports, alcohol reports, DUI check list, vehicle impoundment forms, etc.
Undertakes community oriented police work such as public assistance, crime prevention, and community programs.
Coordinates activities with other police officer or other city departments, exhanges information with officers in other law enforcement agencies, and obtains advice from the City Attorney and Municipal Court Manager regarding cases, policies and procedures.

Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment.
High School diploma or acceptable equivalent.
Associate degree or vocational school training in political science, criminal justice, public administration, or related field is preferred.
Any combination of the above at the discretion of the City Manager.

CERTIFICATION(S) AND LICENSE(S)
Must possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving record as determined by the employer.

Must possess Kansas law enforcement certification as a full-time police officer granted through the Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training (CPOST).
Must complete the department's Field Training Program within 18 months of hire.
Must maintain training requirements as required by Kansas Statute 74-5607a(b).
