What you'll bring
Strong business tax preparation experience and extensive knowledge of tax laws as evidenced by 3 or more years of recent experience preparing federal and state business tax returns (1065 and/or 1120-S) for at least 20 clients/customers per season for compensation, using commercial tax preparation software.
Minimum of 2 seasons of personal Tax Preparation experience, with a minimum of 30 tax returns per tax year in a tax practice or retail setting for compensation, strongly preferred
Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, spread across three or more days.
Bookkeeping experience with books to tax preparation is strongly preferred.
Experience preparing Business Tax returns for service industry customers strongly preferred.
Must possess or be able to obtain any related state licenses, certificates, permits, or bonds.
Must possess an active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
Working knowledge of Circular 230.
Proficient with technology; solid knowledge of computer operations and software.

Job Summary
The Opportunity
The Payroll Tax Specialist brings advanced tax knowledge, broad experience, and acknowledged coordinating ability to the payroll process. This position requires a strong payroll processing and taxation background, analytical skills, a technical (systems) background, and a mature communications style. The ability to organize, influence others, solve problems, and work with minimal supervision is expected of the incumbent, who needs to balance both production tasks and employee interactions or queries.
Essential Functions
* Processes all federal, state, and local taxes in Workday, including setting up new employees' federal, state, and local taxes.
* Reviews address changes and coordinate with employees in order to be tax compliant. Corrects taxes both in Workday and ADP as needed.
* Manages and maintains ADP including setting up of jurisdictions. Reconciling tax payments and exemptions through ADP.
* Administrator on ADP Smart Compliance and yearend balancing and reporting through ADP, working with ADP to produce W2s.
* Balances Workday tax reports to ADP reports for federal and state agencies. Runs and reviews ADP integrations regarding periodic, monthly, quarterly and yearly submissions.
* Works with the Workday Team to test new releases and set up for new state-regulated changes, including but not limited to family leave, disability, and unemployment laws.

* Bachelor's Degree Accounting required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Reviews tax information submitted by client for completeness; meets with, emails, or calls clients with questions.
Possesses knowledge of tax regulations to answer clients' questions that may arise and ensure the accurate entry of data into forms, under supervision of managers and partners.
Prepare personal tax returns of varying complexity to show the ability to grow and expand one's technical knowledge.
Prepares Corporate, S-Corp, Partnership, and Trust returns that are simple to moderately complex to show the ability to grow and expand one's technical knowledge.
Prepares amended and carry back returns for NOLs that are simple to moderately complex.
Prepares personal tax projections through use of computer software and detailed client information.
Prepares compiled financial statements, under supervision, and performs small business bookkeeping duties, as it relates to preparing a client's final year-end information for tax preparation purposes. These responsibilities would include bank reconciliations, general ledger review and maintenance, preparing adjusting journal entries and preparation of basic financial statements in QuickBooks.
Responds to tax notices of any sort and does initial drafts of any letters required.
Performs tax research projects requiring minimal expertise to serve client needs and to build one's technical knowledge base.
Prepares miscellaneous forms occasionally including property tax refund forms, Form 1099's, and payroll tax returns.

**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax withholding, reporting, and remittance for federal, state, and local jurisdictions, particularly for traveling healthcare professionals.
+ Maintain and update payroll tax setup within Workday, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements specific to healthcare staffing payroll structures.
+ Assist internal and travel employees with their payroll-tax concerns.
+ Reconcile payroll tax liabilities and filings, ensuring timely submission and resolution of discrepancies.
+ Assist with year-end tax reporting, including W-2 and other payroll tax documentation for a high-volume workforce.
+ Respond to tax notices, audits, and inquiries from tax authorities.
+ Partner with HR, Finance, and external tax agencies to resolve payroll tax issues.
+ Stay up to date on payroll tax legislation and implement necessary changes within Workday, particularly regarding per diem payments and multi-state tax compliance.
+ Support internal and external payroll tax audits by providing necessary documentation and analysis.
**Qualifications & Skills:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
+ Minimum 3-5 years of payroll tax experience, with expertise in Workday Payroll.
+ Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations, with experience in multi-state payroll compliance.
+ Knowledge of tax implications for traveling healthcare professionals, including per diems and temporary housing benefits.
+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
+ Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including functions such as VLOOKUP, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and data validation to analyze and manage data effectively

What would you do as a Tax Specialist
