POSITION SUMMARY:
A Corrections Officer is responsible for all activities relating to the safe and secure operation of the Jail. This includes all inmate activities from receiving into booking, up to and including release. Persons in this position are responsible for basic security, inmate booking, inmate transport, medical and food service responsibilities, inmate visitation, inmate mail, and electronic monitoring of the entire Jail facility.

PAY RATE INFORMATION:
The Corrections Officer position is a union position and starting pay is $52,844.48/yr. This position is eligible for step pay increases per BA, within the Bargaining Agreement. Top end of the current wage scale for this position is $70,261.57/yr.
DUTIES:
Obtaining and recording required information from inmate at the time of admission to the facility.
Searching inmate and property for weapons and contraband.
Book and fingerprint prisoners and prepare records of clothing, money and other items on the prisoner at the time of detention.
Safeguard inmate's personal belongings and return to them upon release.
Screen inmates for unusual medical or psychological conditions and report same to supervisors and medical personnel.
Acceptable working knowledge of emergency first aid and CPR as prescribed by the American Red Cross.
Physically and verbally control disruptive inmates.
Escort individual or groups of inmates out of cells for rehabilitation, visiting, exercise, sick call, court appearances, attorney visits, transfers to other facilities, etc.
Maintain inmate count including movement of inmates.
Enforce inmate rules by making written reports and making violations known to a supervisor.
Investigate violations of inmate's rules and regulations. Interview witnesses, victims and others in order to prepare required reports.
Inspect cells and premises for security and sanitation.
Distribute food trays, laundry, mail, commissary and bedding supplies.
Controls inmate's by patrolling corridors and other areas in and around the jail.
Check with court for proper commitment papers and appearances.
Taking of bonds and being responsible for lawfully releasing inmates.
Transporting of inmate's to court, medical and other appointments.
QUALIFICATIONS- Applicants for the position of Corrections Officer must:
Applicant must have passed the Michigan Sheriff's Association - EMPCO written exam for Corrections Officers and submit documentation of their score at the time of application submission.
Applicant must have taken and passed the MSCTC-LCOPAT physical fitness test within the last year and submit documentation at the time of application submission.
Applicant must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Applicant must possess a valid driver's license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Physical Security Officer I:
Provides superior service to members, employees, and guests creating a welcoming environment and personalized interactions while paying attention to behaviors, recognizable features, and potentially suspicious notes through situational awareness.
Monitors security cameras, alarm systems, and access control systems to detect and respond to threats, unauthorized access, or security incidents.
Responds to alarms, security concerns, and requests for assistance, taking appropriate action, including coordination with law enforcement or emergency responders as needed.
Maintains and enforces access control procedures, including verifying visitor credentials, issuing badges, and regulating building entry, including denying access and escorting those off premises when appropriate.
Provides a first level of emergency response by providing clear direction to employees and communicating directly with all necessary parties for organizational awareness and reaction.
Conducts daily security rounds and inspections to ensure compliance with security policies, identify potential risks, and communicate vulnerabilities or maintenance concerns.
Assists employees, guests, and visitors with security procedures and building access.
Documents and maintains detailed records of security incidents, visitor access, and suspicious activity.
Ensures adherence to organizational security policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Understand the Credit Union's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks. Adhere to established internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of credit union operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Security Officer II:
Assists with the training of current and new Physical Security employees.
Assists with investigations of security concerns and workplace incidents, providing detailed reports and recommendations to management.
Initiates investigations into incidents to clearly and efficiently escalate as appropriate.
Sr. Physical Security Officer:
Leads investigations of security concerns and workplace incidents, reviewing reports, directing peers through the process, and recommendations to management.
Acts as the Credit Union's incident command in emergency response situations in the absence of management.
Leads incident debriefings when involved as a key contributor to the investigation or action.
Oversees and reviews peer documentation and reporting, ensuring all security logs, incident reports, and compliance records are accurate and up to date.
Deploys to branches and other locations as needed to provide security presence and support.
Trains, mentors, and provides support to other Physical Security Officers serving as a resource for escalated critical decisions and emergency situations. Communicating to management as needed.
Job Requirements:
Physical Security Officer I:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience in law enforcement, military, security, or similar
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required or ability to obtain
Physical Security Officer II:
Completion of one or more formalized trainings in security/first responder with certification of completion (i.e. Physical Security Certification, Fire Safety Training, Emergency Response Training); -or 2 years of experience in security/first responder rolls in lieu
Sr. Physical Security Officer:
Security Guard Licenses or Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice required; -or 3 years of experience in security roles in lieu
